FOUR people have been arrested over a plan to import enough base chemicals to make 1.37 million ecstasy pills in bottles of olive oil from Spain.
The Australian Federal Police say there was a plot to import 117kg of MDMA base chemicals into Australia, with an estimated street value of $52 million.
An 18-month investigation led to properties being searched in Australia, Spain, the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Three people were arrested in Australia on Friday - two men in Sydney, and a woman in Melbourne.
A fourth person was arrested in the United Kingdom, and police say they'll seek his extradition.
The three arrested in Australia have all been charged.
One of the two men arrested in Sydney is an Irish national. He's been charged with trafficking a marketable quantity of MDMA and dealing in the proceeds of crime.
The second man arrested in Sydney, and the woman arrested in Melbourne, have been charged with conspiracy to import a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs.
That man and the woman have been extradited to Queensland and are expected to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
