Train delays likely for Friday PM rush

SYDNEY commuters are experiencing delays on the rail network on Friday morning, with a train caught in overhead wires at Normanhurst.

The Transport Management Centre (TMC) said "urgent overhead wiring repairs" were taking place at Normanhurst after an incident about 5.30am, and that buses would be replacing trains between Hornsby and Epping as a result.

A TMC spokesman said the replacement bus service had not yet started operating.

"At this time of morning things take a little while to fall into place, so they're yet to arrive at Hornsby station," he told Fairfax Radio Network.

Passengers on the Northern, Newcastle and Central Coast lines are being warned of delays due to the partial closure of both lines.

Commuters heading to the city via the Northern Line are being advised to travel to Epping via Chatswood, then change for a city-bound train.

There is currently no forecast on when train services on the affected lines will resume.

The TMC is advising rail passengers to check indicator boards, listen to announcements and allow additional travel time this morning.
